In the past, graphite electrode was used as a means to discharge slag in electric arc furnaces, but due to its high cost and low efficiency, as well as its destruction during service, it was replaced by a copper electrode under water treatment with high thermal capability. The special design of this piece in resistance to thermal stresses makes the furnace body not damaged as a protective piece against the heat of 1,200 degrees Celsius. The heat created in the body of this part is removed from the part through the circulating water fluid inside the designed ducts and the temperature of the part remains constant at a level that does not cause damage to the part. Copper electrode with continuous and reliable transfer of slag reduces furnace stoppages, increases efficiency and also raises the level of safety in steelmaking companies.
